Understanding and defining your purpose will enable you to live how you want to live.

No amount of self-help books and inspirational stories can inspire you to bring a change unless you  know what the change you seek actually is. So how do you define your definite major purpose?

Try this… it is the ultimate goal that you wish to achieve in your life. Whatever that goal is, and yes sometimes the goals change as we live and learn. Once you figure this out, at the right stages and times of your life, this will  become the central mission of your life and will make it easier to set goals and achieve them. Goals don’t do much on their own, except become milestones to a road unknown.

This is something  you should give a lot of time and thought, because it lays the foundation for your success and fulfillment in life.
Here are some questions that can help you define your purpose:
  • Top purpose of my life?
  • The most important things I want to accomplish in my life?
  • What fulfils me above all other things?

And then ask yourself these questions, the objective of which is to place value on your desires and how having a specific amount of money can become an instrument for their fruition and not place value on money itself.

  • What would you do if you had a million dollars in the bank?
  • In what ways would your life change?
  • What would you do differently?
  • What are the things  you would want to buy in the course of a year with that money?
  • Name three goals you think you would be able to accomplish with that money?

And then ask yourself these questions that will help you prioritize your personal and professional achievements, and focus on the bigger picture and not work on achieving short-term goals alone.:

  • What are the three things  you would regret not doing if you got to know you were about to die?
  • How would want to define your professional career when you die?
  • What is the one thing that you would want to define your personal growth when you die?
More questions/things to consider.  Your purpose MUST BE:
  1. something that you personally really want.  Your desire for this goal must be so intense that the very idea of achieving your major definite purpose excites you and makes you happy.
  2. clear and specific.  You must be able to define it in words.  You must be able to write it down with such clarity that a child could read it and know exactly what it is that you want and be able to decide whether or not you have achieved it.
  3. Imeasurable and quantifiable.  Rather than ‘I want to make a lot of money,’ it must be more like ‘I will earn $100,000 per year by (a specific date).’
  4. both believable and achievable.  Your major definite purpose cannot be so big or so ridiculous that it is completely unattainable.
  5. in harmony with your other goals.  Your major goals must be in harmony with your minor goals and congruent with your values.

When you have a good idea of what you wish to achieve from your life, it is time to design your life around it.
