Be Energetic Every Day – It makes a Difference

Why be Energetic? What are the Benefits?

  • People who are energetic tend to  live a healthier lifestyle.
  • If you feel full of energy, you can take on the stressful situations which life throws at you each day more easily.
  • When you have buckets of energy, you will find that life flows a little easier.
  • Feeling energetic can enhance your mood, give you a lift, make you feel better.
  • Being energetic  makes and keeps people productive, effective and successful in their lives and careers.
How to be Energetic – Physical Energy

Excercise regularly.  This will help improve your overall health, make you stronger,  make your body work more efficiently, make you happier, more positive and less anxious. Choose exercise activities that you enjoy. If it’s not going the gym, you can walk, hike, dance, bicycle, jog,  play tennis, golf, racquetball, or some other sport.

Eat healthy.  Our bodies need fuel for energy; that fuel is food. Build your diet around healthy non-processed foods that provide all the necessary nutrients. Avoid foods high in sugar and low in nutrition such as pre-packaged meals, chips, sodas, and candy bars which actually decrease energy levels after providing a very short energy boost.  Pick a mix of  foods that provide complex carbohydrates, are low in fat, and contain moderate amount of protein. Drink plenty of water (8-9 glasses each day).

Drink caffeine in moderation. Consuming caffeine can have a positive effect on your energy levels. In addition to boosting your mental and physical energy, caffeine also increases your fat oxidation and metabolic rate.

Ensure you get all the necessary vitamins and minerals. B vitamins and iron are important micronutrients that help support your energy levels.  Vitamin 12, vitamin 6, thiamine, niacin, and folic acid support your body’s energy metabolism, while iron is needed for healthy red blood cells that are responsible for carrying oxygen.  If you are not getting enough of these  in your diet, consider taking a multivitamin with iron and essential B vitamins.

Get enough sleep.  If you suffer from lack of energy, it might be because you are not getting enough sleep. According to the Sleep Foundation, adults should get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night. Make sure you get enough sleep.  Avoid heavy meals and too much alcohol just before bedtime as these might make sleeping more difficult.

How to be Energetic – Mental Energy

Practice yoga. Practicing yoga can help reduce fatigue and boost your energy levels in addition to the other health benefits it has to your muscles and cardiovascular system. During yoga poses, breathe deeply to bring fresh oxygen to your blood. This will stimulate your nervous system and make you feel more energetic.

Meditate.  Meditating allows you to bring the mind to rest from all the stressful emotions and thoughts experienced throughout the day and night.  It won’t silence the mind,  but it will  quiet your mind to a manageable (and observable) level. This sense of clarity, or in this case more importantly: relief, can have a significant effect on your energy,

Do meaningful work and live a meaningful life. When you love what you do for a living, you simply have more energy.  Doing meaningful work gives you a sense of purpose by focusing on how it benefits other people rather than just yourself. So, if you hate your job,  now might be a good time to try and fix that.

When you are  healthy, you can concentrate on the things that are important to you. Most significantly, a sound body allows you to focus on your soul, enabling you to fulfill your divine mission in the world and live a meaningful life. Just as the body needs all those thngs mentioned above, the soul needs nourishment. This nourishment includes an awareness and connection to a transcendent power, and a unique purpose in life. It’s important that your physical fitness have a spiritual component — an appreciation of the higher purpose of maintaining good health.

Constantly be learning.  Read articles about topics you are interested in.  Read books about how to improvie yourself. Listen to audiobooks. Take courses. Be on the lookout for new and interesting learning opportunities.

What to do if you are lacking the “motivation to do any of these things…

Maybe a spiritual approach  can get you going. Deeper motivation and insight into the spiritual value of fitness, increasing physical and mental energy, can elevate your experiences of working out, eating right and taking care of your body and help you develop a positive relationship with these activities.  Try these things…

  • Accept responsibility  – sometimes accepting responsiblity can seem draining. The reality is that sometimes these tasks  are indeed exhausting. But, there is another way to look at responsibility such that it becomes a means of nurturing yourself rather than depleting your emotional and physical energy reserves: Responsibility is a basic human need, just like food or oxygen; we cannot fulfill or justify our existence without it. It is one of the greatest gifts we’ve been endowed with — the gift of being active participants in the unfolding of our destinies.
What Happens When You Don’t Accept Responsibility
    • You might experience a state of aimlessness.
    • You might also be anxious.
    • Your conscience could pester you.
    • You and other people might suffer.
    • You’ll miss opportunities.
    • Feelings of dependency and indignity could plague you.
    • You won’t make your full impact on the world.
The Magic That Happens When You Do
    • You’ll feel like an active participant in life, rather than a victim of circumstances.
    • A connection  to the world around you will probably occur.
    • You’ll enjoy dignity and independence.
    • The joy of using your distinct talents and abilities will be yours.
    • Feelings of frustration and helplessness will give way to satisfaction.
    • You’ll go from being reactive to being proactive.
    • The positive effects of your actions will reach far beyond your scope of vision.
