10+ Hours of “Think and Grow Rich”

THINK AND GROW RICH…

This is an in depth, comprehensive review of “Think and Grow Rich” written by Napoleon Hill, which in my opinion, is the best self help personal development book every written.   Napoleon Hill is brilliant beyond words.  Now I see why Bob Proctor has been reading this book for over 50 years.  You must immerse yourself in this book and see what I am talking about.

I just spent the last 4 weeks listening to a 10+ hours audio of “Think and Grow Rich” and reading much of the book as I was listening. I want to share some of it with you. But before I start… Here is a link to the audio  that I listened to.

I’m giving it you here so that  you can listen to it yourself. You should absolutely listen to it yourself. There’s something about hearing it with your own ears and digesting the words that you can’t experience just through my words. I think if you read on you will be inspired to do this…to listen to the tape, to read the book or both. Please don’t just take my word for it.

This particular audio not only goes over the entire book by Napoleon Hill, but also adds lots of editorial comments along the way that link the information and concepts presented in the book with additional stories that connect things and events really well.  The editorial comments also provide  relevant updates to today’s success stories that  directly relate to Hill’s concepts as outlined in his book a generation or two earlier.

Also, here is a  link to the pdf  ThinkandGrowRich  if you want to follow along in the text while listening to the audio. (Note: that the audio and the pdf are not exactly the same throughout because of the editorial comments).

In addition, I  have provided individual audios of each chapter below thanks to http://thecicadas.com/thinkgrow.html  for posting on the internet which you can listen to individually as time permits.  Please note that audios for Chapters 7 and 15 are not provided as I had technical problems with the downloads.  However you can hear these two chapters in the above link to the entire book. Oh, one more thing…

“Think and Grow Rich” was designed for the purpose of presenting a complete philosophy by which individuals may unerringly guide themselves in attaining whatever they ask of life.  Much of the book refers to the making of money, however, it is my opinion and I believe that of Napoleon Hill as well, that each element discussed in this book from Desire to Faith to Decision to Persistence, to Auto-Suggestion, indeed each of the principles discussed in the book are essential to the achievement of ALL goals.  I believe that any person can achieve anything s/he wants to  in life by following these principles.

Ok finally, let’s get to the summaries, highlights and ideas presented in each chapter. Click on the “Tape” and it will take you to the audio.  To listen to the full length movie, click here

Tape 1 Chapter 1 – Introduction  – includes Foreword, Author’s Preface and more…

In every chapter of this book, mention has been made of the money-making Andrew Carnegie Secret which has made fortunes for more than five hundred exceeding wealthy men who Hill analyzed over a long period of years.

  • The Secret cannot be had without a price and a person has to be looking for it. It contains two parts. If you are ready for the secret, you already possess one half of it. Therefore, you will readily recognize the other half the moment it reaches your mind.
  • A list of hugely successful business people who Napoleon Hill  interviewed, studied and analyzed over a period of years is presented. Very impressive list of people who did some pretty inspiring things and achieved great successes. Many of these people read, endorsed, and/or followed the teachings of Hill as outlined in “Think and Grow Rich”.
    • I will not list all 500 individuals, but here are a few to get you excited and inspired about the possibilities:
      • Henry Ford
      • George Eastman
      • Theodore Roosevelt
      • Wilbur Wright
      • Charles Schwab
      • John D. Rockefeller
      • Thomas A. Edison
      • F.W. Woolworth
      • Woodrow Wilson
      • Wm. Howard Taft
      • Dr. Alexander Graham Bell
  • The story of Edwin C. Barnes begins in this chapter becasue you see it was Edwin C. Barnes who discovered how true it is that men really do Think and Grow Rich.  His burning Desire to become a business associate of Thomas Edison came into reality by using the principles behind the idea of thinking and growing rich.
Tape 2 Chapter 2 –  Desire, the Starting Point of all Achievement                – (1st step toward Riches)
  • Desire  is the starting point of all achievement and the first step towards riches.
  • The continuation of the Edwin C. Barnes story of how he achieved his Desire and became a business associate of Thomas Edison by choosing a definite goal, placing all his energy, all his will power, all his effort, everything in back of that goal.  As he himself stated, “I will burn all bridges behind me, and state my entire future on my ability to get what I want.”
  • There are 6 essential steps that need to be taken to accumulate money (As noted above these 6 steps should be used to attain any goal in life.) They are:
    • fix in your mind the exact amount of money you Desire
    • determine exactly what you intend to give in return
    • establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you Desire
    • create a definite plan for carrying out your Desire
    • write out a clear and concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire
    • read your written statement aloud twice daily. As you read, see, feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money (or the thing you Desire)
  • You may as well know that you can never have riches in great quantities, unless you can work yourself into a white heat of Desire for money and actually believe you will possess it. I
  • The turning point in the lives of those who succeed usually comes at the moment of some crisis at which time they are introduced to their “other selves”.
  • There is a difference between wishing for a thing and being ready to receive it. No one is ready for a thing until he believes he can acquire it. The state of mind must be belief, not mere hope or wish.
  • No more effort is required to aim high in life, to demand abundance and prosperity than is required to accept misery and poverty.
  • Desire backed by faith is unstoppable and knows no such word as impossible.
  • Strange and imponderable is the power of the human mind. We do not understand the method by which it uses every circumstance, every individual, every physical thing within its reach as a means of transmuting Desire into its physical counterpart.
  • There is nothing right or wrong which  belief plus burning Desire cannot make real… these qualities are free to everyone
Tape 3 Chapter 3 – Faith, Visualization of and belief in attainment of Desire  (2nd step toward Riches)
  • Faith is the focus of this chapter, however the concepts of Auto Suggestion, Desire, and Persistence are also presented and discussed at length.
  • Faith is the starting point of all accumulation of riches!
  • Faith is the basis of all “miracles”, and all mysteries which cannot be analyzed by the rule of science
  • Faith is the only known antidote for Failure.
  • Faith is the only known agency which will give your thoughts a spiritual nature.
  • Faith is the element, the chemical which, when mixed with prayer, gives one direct communication with Infinite intelligence.
  • The emotions of Faith, Love and Sex are the most powerful of all the major positive emotions. When the three are blended, they have the effect of “coloring” the vibration of thought in such a way that it instantly reaches the subconscious mind, where it is changed into its spiritual equivalent, the only form that induces a response from infinite intelligence.
  • Love and Faith are psychic; related to the spiritual side of man. Sex is purely biological, and related only to the physical. The mixing or blending of these three emotions has the effect of opening a direct line of communication between the finite, thinking mind of man and Infinite Intelligence.
  • Faith is a state of mind that can be induced by auto suggestion and created by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind.
Tape 4 Chapter 4Auto-Suggestion, the Medium for influencing the Subconscious Mind (3rd step toward riches)
  • Auto-Suggestion is the focus of this chapter, however other concepts described in this book such as Desire, Persistence and Faith are related to this concept as well.
  • Auto-Suggestion is a term which applies to all suggestions and all self-administered stimuli which reach one’s mind through the five senses.
  • Through the dominating thoughts which one permits to remain in the conscious mind, (whether these thoughts be negative or positive, is immaterial), the principle of Auto-Suggestion voluntarily reaches the subconscious mind and influences it with these thoughts.
  • NO THOUGHT, whether it be negative or positive, CAN ENTER THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND WITHOUT THE AID OF THE PRINCIPLE OF AUTO-SUGGESTION
  • Plain unemotional words do not influence the subconscious mind.
  • The mere reading of the words is of NO Consequence unless you mix emotion or feeling with your words. The lack of understanding of this is the main reason the majority of people who try to apply the principle of Auto-Suggestion get no desirable results.
  • Self Suggestion,  a hugely powerful factor in building character  is in fact the sole principle through which character is built.
Tape 5 Chapter 5 – Specialized Knowledge, Personal Experiences or Observations – (4th step toward Riches)
  • This chapter deals with the fourth step to riches – the various issues related to knowledge, Specialized, General, Education. It also introduces the concept of the Master Mind as a method of acquiring these types of knowledge, the need to create a plan of action with the acquired knowledge, sources of knowledge, how to  purchase knowledge, Imagination and much more.
  • Specialized Knowledge, an abundance of knowledge about a particular subject.  vs. General Knowledge,  an abundance of knowledge about lots of different subjects.
  • Regarding General Knowledge, no matter how great in quantity or variety it
may be, is of but little use in the accumulation of money.
  • Knowledge will not attract money, unless it is organized, and intelligently directed, through practical plans of action, to the definite end of accumulation of money Lack of understanding of this fact has been the source of confusion to millions of people who falsely believe that “knowledge is power”.
  • Regarding Specialized Knowledge, it can be acquired from accessing a Master Mind Group, further presented and described in Chapter 10.
  • It is critical to know how to organize and use the acquired knowledge into a plan of action.
  • Specialized Knowledge is among the most plentiful and the cheapest forms of service which may be had.
  • Specialization and Specialized Knowledge/training/education is key to success.
Tape 6 Chapter 6 – Imagination, workshop of the Mind (5th step toward Riches)
  • This chapter deals not only with Imagination,  but also connects Imagination to the other concepts outlined in the book, including Desire, creation of plans of action,   Definiteness of Purpose,   It also tells two stories, one about the beginning of the Coca Cola Company and the other about what a preacher would do with a million dollars and how Imagination was successfully used to succeed in both endeavors.
  • The Imagination is literally the workshop of the mind wherein are fashioned all plans created by man.
  • The Desire impulse is given shape, form and action through the aid of the imaginative faculty of the mind.
  • Man can create anything that he can Imagine.
  • Man has not yet reached the apex of development in the use of his Imaginative faculty. He has merely discovered that he has an Imagination but has started to use it only in a very elementary way.
  • The only limitation that exists is that which one sets up in one’s own mind.
  • Ideas are impulses of thought that impel action by an appeal to the Imagination.
  • Riches, when they come in huge quantities are never the result of hard work and honesty alone. They come in response to definite demands, based on the  application of definite principles.
  • Synthetic Imagination vs. Creative Imagination
    • Synthetic Imagination s when a person arranges old concepts, ideas, or plans into new combinations.
    • Creative Imagination is when man’s mind has direct communication with Infinite Intelligence. It is where hunches and inspiration are received.
Tape 7 Chapter 7 – Organized Planning, the Crystallization of Desire into Action (6th step toward Riches)
  • Although this chapter is  entitled Organized Planning, it is practically speaking,  a hodge podge of valuable information.  It is not only about putting together plans, but also about the ways and means of marketing personal services. It refers to and stresses the importance of the Mastermind concept (which is the focus of a later chapter) the members of which help with the formulation and implementation of the Plan, the concepts of  Desire, Persistence, Leadership, Failure and provides a comprehensive approach to “resume” (or brief) building and self analyses.  Capitalism is also addressed.
  • Plans need to be made and adjusted as necessary (often several times) if they are not working.
  • The most intelligent man living cannot succeed in accumulating money nor in any other undertaking without plans which are practical and workable.
  • When your plans fail, remember that this is just a temporary defeat, not a permanent failure.
  • No man is ever whipped, until he QUITS – in his own mind.
  • A quitter never wins and a winner never quits.
  • 11 important factors of successful Leadership: 1) unwavering courage based on knowledge of self and of ones occupation; 2) self control;  3) a keen sense of justice; 4) definiteness of decision; 5) definiteness of plans; 6) the habit of doing more than paid for; 7) a pleasing personality; 8) sympathy and understanding; 9) mastery of detail; 10) willingness to assume full responsibility; and 11) cooperation.
  • 10 major causes of failure in Leadership: 1) inability to organize details; 2) unwillingness to render humble service; expectation of pay for what they know’ fear of competition from followers; 5) lack of imagination; selfishness; 7) intemperance; 8) disloyalty; 9) emphasis of authority of leadership,; and 10) emphasis of title.
  • Resumes/briefs should include: your education; your experience; references; applying for a specific position; your qualifications; offer to go to work on probation; knowledge of or prospective employer’s business; your photograph.
  • 30 reasons for Failure:  1) unfavorable hereditary background; 2) lack of a well-defined purpose in life; 3) lack of ambition to aim above mediocrity; 4) insufficient education; 5) lack of self-discipline; 6) ill health; 7) unfavorable environmental influences; 8) procrastination; 9) lack of persistence; 10) negative personality; 11) lack of controlled sexual urge; 12) uncontrolled desire for “something for nothing”; 13) lack of a well-defined power of decision; 14) one or more of the six basic fears; 15) wrong selection of a mate in marriage; 16) over-caution; 17) wrong selection of associates in business; 18) superstition and prejudice; 19) wrong selection of a vocation; 20) lack of concentration of effort;  21) the habit of indiscriminate spending;  22) lack of enthusiasm; 23) intolerance; 24) intemperance; 25) inability to cooperate with others; 26) possession of power that was not acquired; 27) intentional dishonesty; 28) egotism and vanity; 29) guessing instead of thinking; and 30) lack of capital.
Tape 8 Chapter 8 – Decision, the Mastery of Procrastination (7th step toward Riches)
  • Procrastination is the opposite of Decision.
  • Lack of Decision, or in other words,  Procrastination, is near the top of the list of 30 major causes of failure.
  • Millionaires disclosed the fact that every one of them had the habit of reaching Decisions promptly and changing these Decisions slowly, if and when they were changed.
  • Opinions are the cheapest commodities on earth; everyone has a flock of them ready to be given to anyone who will accept them.
  • It is characteristic of people who have a little knowledge to try to give the impression that they have much knowledge.
  • Use your brain and reach your own decisions and acquire facts or information from other people if you need to, but without disclosing your purpose.
  • Once you have made your decision, take no one into your confidence except the members of your Master Mind group; make sure that your selection of this group consists only of those who are in complete sympathy and harmony with your purpose.
  • Tell the world what you intend to do, but first show it.
  • The great Decisions which served as the foundation of civilization were reached by assuming great risks including the possibility of death.
  • A Man who cannot reach a decision promptly after having all the necessary facts cannot be depended upon to follow through on any decision he makes
Tape 9 Chapter 9 – Persistence, the Sustained Effort necessary to induce Faith (8th step toward Riches)
  • Persistence, the sustained effort necessary to induce faith, is discussed throughout this book. There are over 100 references to the word Persistence in the entire book. This Chapter focuses on Persistence, identifies the symptoms of lack of Persistence and  how to develop Persistence.
  • The basis of Persistence is the power of will.
  • The quality of Persistence is to the character of man what carbon is to steel.
  • The 13 principles laid out in the philosophy of “Think and Grow Rich” must be understood and applied with Persistence to achieve success.
  • Lack of Persistence is a weakness common to the majority of people.
  • The ease with which lack of Persistence may be conquered will depend entirely upon the intensity of one’s Desire.
  • Without Persistence you will be defeated, even before you start. With Persistence you will win.
  • Be Persistent no matter how slowly you move at first because with Persistence will come success.
  • Those who have cultivated the habit of Persistence seem to enjoy insurance against failure becasue no matter how many times they are defeated, they finally arrive at their goal.
  • Fannie Hurst, an American novelist got 36 rejection notes from The Saturday Evening Post and worked and struggled for over 4 years before she got her payoff. Most people would have given up after a couple rejections, but Ms. Hurst had Persistence, that’s for sure and it paid off.
  • Napoleon Hill’s personal experiences filled with one challenge after another demonstrated a lot of Persistence.
  • Persistence is to the character of man as carbon is to steel.
  • Persistence is a state of mind, therefore it can be cultivated. It is based on definite causes, including Definiteness of Purpose, Desire, Self-reliance, Definiteness of Plans, Accurate Knowledge, Cooperation, Willpower, and Habit.
  • Symptoms of lack of Persistence include:  failure to recognize and to clearly define exactly what one wants; Procrastination; lack of interest in acquiring Specialized Knowledge;  not being able to make a Decision, the habit or relying on alibis instead of solutions; self satisfaction; indifference, the habit of blaming others for one’s mistakes, weakness of Desire, willingness to quit at the first sing of defeat, lack of Organized Plans, the habit of neglecting to move on ideas; wishing instead of willing, the habit of compromising with poverty instead of aspiring to riches, searching for all shortcuts, and fear of criticism.
  • The way to develop the habit of Persistence is to follow four steps: 1) have a Definite Purpose backed by a Burning Desire for its Fulfillment; 2) have a Definite Plan, expressed in continuous action; 3) have a tightly closed mind to all negative and discouraging influences, all those negative naysayers in your life; and 4) have a friendly alliance with one or more person who will encourage you.
  • What mystical power gives to men of Persistence the capacity to master difficulties?
  • Does the quality of Persistence set up in one’s mind some form of spiritual, mental or chemical activity which gives one access to supernatural forces?
  • Does Infinite intelligence throw itself on the side of the person who still fights on,  , after the battle has been lost, with the whole world on the opposing side, the person with Persistence?
Tape 10 Chapter 10 – Power of the Master Mind, the Driving Force (9th step to Riches)
  • The Master Mind concept/idea is described and addressed as one of the more important concepts throughout the book. This Chapter describes the method by which an individual may attain and apply Power, including how to apply the Power of  the Master Mind.
  • Power is essential for success in the accumulation of money.
  • Plans need Power to turn them into action.
  • Power can be defined as “organized and intelligently directed knowledge” and refers to organized effort achieved through the coordination of effort of two or more people who work harmoniously toward a definite end.
  • Knowledge can be acquired from three sources: 1) Infinite Intelligence, 2) Accumulated Experience and 3) Experiment and Research and then through any one of these sources, that knowledge may be converted into  Power by organizing it into plans that are put into action.
  • Because it is difficult for an individual on his own to assemble all the knowledge needed to be converted into an actionable plan, one needs the support  of a Master Mind  consisting of like minded people to assist in achieving the goals set forth in the plans.
  • The Master Mind may be defined as the coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony between two or more people for the attainment of a definite purpose.
  • The Master Mind principle has two characteristics one is economic in nature and the other is psychic.
  • When the minds of two people are coordinated in a spirit of harmony, the spiritual units of energy of each mind form an affinity which constitutes the psychic phase of the Master Mind.
  • A group of brains connected in a spirit of harmony – a Master Mind – will provide more thought energy than a single brain. Consider what the  influence of one mind can have on another mind and what can be accomplished.
  • Any man who has accumulated a great fortune has either consciously or unconsciously employed the Master Mind principle.
  • No two minds ever come together without creating a third, invisible, intangible force which may be likened to a third mind.
  • When a group of individual brains are coordinated and function in harmony, the increased energy created through the alliance becomes available to every individual brain in the group.
  • Men take on the nature and the habits and the power of thought of those with whom they associate in a spirit of sympathy and harmony.
  • When two or more people coordinate in a spirit of harmony, working toward a definite objective, they place themselves in position through that alliance to absorb power directly from the great universal storehouse of Infinite Intelligence, which is the greatest of all sources of Power .
Tape 11 Chapter 11–  The Mystery of Sex Transmutation (10th step toward Riches)
  • Sex Transmutation is the switching of the mind from thoughts of physical expression to thoughts of some other nature.
  • Sex Desire is the most powerful of human Desires, and when driven by this Desire, men develop great imagination, courage, will power, persistence and creative ability unknown to them at other times.
  • The Transmutation of Sex Energy requires the exercise of will power and it is said that the reward is worth the effort.
  • The Desire for Sexual expression is natural and should not be submerged or eliminated, but it should be given an outlet through forms of expression which enrich the body, mind and spirit of man, otherwise it will seek outlets through purely and only physical channels.
  • The emotion of sex may be submerged and controlled for a time, but its very nature causes it to be ever seeking means of expression.  If it is not transmuted into some creative effort it will find a less worthy outlet.
  • When Sex Desire is harnessed and redirected along other lines, this motivating force maintains all of its attributes of keenness of imagination, courage, etc., which may be used as powerful creative forces in literature, art, or in any other profession or calling, including, of course, the accumulation of riches.
  • Disappointment over love affairs, generally has the effect of driving men to drink and women to ruin; and this because most people never learn the art of transmuting their strongest emotions into dreams of a constructive nature.
Tape 12 Chapter 12The Subconscious Mind, the Connecting Link (11th step toward Riches)
  • Although this chapter focuses on the Subconscious Mind, the principles of Desire, Autosuggestion, Faith and others outlined in “Think and Grow Rich” are addressed here, specifically as to how they relate to the  workings of the Subconscious Mind.
  • The Subconscious Mind consists of a field of consciousness, in which every impulse of thought that reaches the objective mind through any of the five senses is classified and records, and on which thoughts may be recalled or withdrawn.
  • The Subconscious acts first on the dominating desires which have been mixed with emotional feeling such as faith.
  • The Subconscious Mind works day and night and draws upon the forces of infinite Intelligence for the power with which it voluntarily transmutes one’s desires into their physical equivalent.
  • The Subconscious Mind may be voluntarily directed only through habit.
  • The Subconscious Mind will not remain idle; if you fail to plant Desires in your Subconscious Mind, it will feed upon the thoughts which reach it as the result of your neglect.
  • When giving instructions to your Subconscious Mind, draw upon the positive emotions of Desire, Faith, Love, Sex, Enthusiasm, Romance and Hope and avoid the negative emotions of fear, jealousy hatred, revenge, greed, superstition and anger.
  • The presence of a single negative in your conscious mind is enough to destroy all changes of any constructive aid from your Subconscious Mind.
Tape 13 Chapter 13 The Brain, the Broadcasting and Receiving Station for Thought (the 12th step toward Riches)
  • As with all chapters of “Think and Grow Rich”, this chapter about the Brain refers to not only the subject matter of the chapter, but alludes to many of the other concepts of the Book including  the concepts/principles of Imagination, Sex Transmutation, the Subconscious Mind, Auto-Suggestion, Desire, Master Mind to mention a few and how they all work together.
  • Man understands little or nothing of the intangible force of thought, let alone the physical Brain and its vast network of intricate machinery through which the power of thought is translated into its material equivalent.
  • The central switchboard of the Human Brain (e.g. the number of lines which connect the Brain celts with another), equals the number one followed by fifteen million ciphers (codes).
  • It has been determined that there are from 10,000,000,000 to 14,000,000,000 nerve cells in the human cerebral cortex (the outer layer of neural tissue of the cerebrum of the Brain) and that these are arranged in definite patterns
  • The Human Brain is both a broadcasting and receiving station for the vibration of thought.
  • The Subconscious Mind is the “sending station” of the Brain through which vibrations of thought are broadcast, while the Creative Imagination is the “receiving set” through which the vibrations of thought are picked up.
  • Besides providing humans the ability to carry on physical functions incidental to their growth and maintenance of the physical body, is it not also likely that the same Brain could also provide the means of communication with other intangible forces (e.g. telepathy,  clairvoyance, prophetic dreams)?
Tape 14 Chapter 14 – The Sixth Sense, The Door to the Temple of Wisdom – (the 13th step toward Riches)
  • This chapter talks about the Sixth Sense and how it interacts with Infinite Intelligence which opens the door to man’s attainment of Wisdom.  Hill describes his own personal experience with these concepts and how this experience helped him achieve his own personal success in life and reach the potential which Hill claims every man can do if s/he follows the principles laid out in this book.
  • The Sixth Sense is that which Infinite Intelligence may and will communicate voluntarily, without any effort from, or demands by the individual
  • The Sixth Sense is the apex of the philosophy set forth in  “Think and Grow Rich” and it can only be assimilated, understood and applied by first mastering the other twelve principles.
  • The Sixth Sense is that portion of the Subconscious Mind which has been referred to as the Creative Imagination, also referred to as hunches or inspirations.
  •  The Sixth Sense is a mixture of both the mental and the spiritual.
  • Through the aid of the Sixth Sense, you will be warned of impending dangers in time to avoid them and nof opportunities in time to embrace them.
  • The Sixth Sense will never function while the three negative of indecision, doubt and fear remain in your mind.
  • It is a fact that human beings receive accurate knowledge, through sources other than the physical senses, that being the Sixth Sense.
  • The spiritual forces with which the Sixth Sense is so  closely related  do not mature and become usable except through years of meditation self-examination and serious thought.
Tape 15 Chapter 15 – How to Outwit the Six Ghosts of Fear
  • This chapter on Fear is incredible. Hill’s purpose in writing this chapter is to turn the spotlight of attention on the causes and cures of the six basic Fears, know their names, their habits and where they reside. Hill describes each fear in great detail, providing examples, addressing its symptoms and how it came about. In addition, Hill challenges the reader to read and analyze yourself carefully and determine which if any of these Fears have attached themselves to you so that you can eliminate them sooner than later in order to achieve your riches, be it money or anything else you want in life. .
  • Indecision is the seedling of Fear .
  • Indecision crystallizes into doubt and the two blend and become Fear.
  • The blending process of these 3 is very slow, which is one reason why they are so dangerous. They germinate and grow without their presence being observed.
  • The six basic fears named in their order of most common appearance are: 1) Fear of Poverty; 2) Fear of Criticism, 3) Fear of Ill Health; 4) Fear of Loss of Love of Someone; 5) Fear of Old Age;  and 6) Fear of Death.
  • Fears are nothing more than states of mind which are truly subject to control and direction; Fear can be mastered.
  • Man’s thought impulses begin immediately to translate themselves into their physical equivalent, whether those thoughts are voluntary or involuntary.
  • Symptoms of the Fear of Poverty include: indifference; indecision; doubt; worry; over-caution; procrastination; overtaken by failure instead of burning all bridges and making retreat impossible; weakness or lack of self confidence, self control, initiative, enthusiasm, ambition; and expecting poverty instead of demanding riches.
  • The Fear of Criticism robs man of his initiative, destroys his power of imagination, limits his individuality, takes away his self-reliance and does him damage in a hundred other ways.
  • The seed of Fear of Ill Health  lives in every human mind; worry, fear, discouragement, and disappointment in love and business affairs cause this seed to germinate and grow.
  • The Fear of Loss of Love is the most painful of all the six basic fears and probably plays more havoc with the body and mind than any of the other basics fears.
  • Some causes of the Fear of Old Age include Fear of Poverty, Fear of Ill Health, and the possibility of loss of freedom and independence.
  • The Fear of Death is possiblity the crutest of all the basic fears
